Yeah drove it out tonight. Just running wastegate boost for the time being due to slipping clutch and stock injectors. Everything appears to be fine. No leaks so thats good. I need to do a rough tune on it now. It has thrown mine off from the lag. (I was tuning out the VTA BOV via lean spots in the map that no longer go lean due to no part throttle boost anymore). So it was backfiring a lil bit. Fix that up tommorow at work!

No news really. I have an exhaust leak somewhere that started about a week ago. Gotta track that down and fix. Hopefully it is only the downpipe connection and not the manifold or hotside. Then install my wideband and get it leaned out some. Running very rich right now.

Indeed! Nuked and I have garages directly beside each other, and BOTH of us need motivation to finish these cars up before spring.

Update 03/30/08
Well got the exhaust leak fixed yesterday. Turns out that not only was there a bolt loose that holds the turbine housing on, but another that was completely gone! Thats all fixed now, changed the oil and coolant as well. Today I am going to roughly tune it in the cruise and idle loads, and attempt to get it tuned under boost as well. Clutch slips under boost, so that may not be doable. Clutch and flywheel will be ordered this coming friday and installed the falling week or so. Then all I have left are the cams, tires and a standalone. Cams and standalone will probably be after the ocean city trip.

Hell yeah, get that clutch in there so you can at least break it in and race!! Didn't know you were doing cams too. What's the standalone going to help/do?

You can fine tune a standalone ECU to an extensive degree that can't be had with just piggybacking or re-flashing the stock ECU.

Count me in as well, if I'm in town when you do it. I know I'll be gone the 11th and 12th for sure. Not sure how many and which models Andrew has done but the ACD either needs to be bled properly or you have to have some "MUT II" tool from Mitsubishi. I think that's what it's called and assume that Andrew is gonna help you out with it?
The guy that helped us do mine basically had a pump to suck the fluid out. Otherwise, you'll get a check engine light and the ACD won't work right, from what I've read.

Looking back on it, it's really not that bad to get the tranny out. There are definitely opportunities to multi-task and cut out some time, if you have some extra hands.

Thanks for all the help offers guys!
I am not really sure if I am going to do the clutch or have andrew do it. I spoke with him regarding the ACD and he was able to remove Spencer's transmission without breaking the lines to the ACD. Some people have done it this way, guess it just depends on how lucky you are?
As for the standalone, it will give me a better tune and allow me to drop mass air in favor of speed density. Better resolution for fuel and timing maps, and tons more options.
Today I was able to get the cruise and idle tuned in fairly good. Still needs a little more tweaking, but it is running much better. I also installed the manual boost controller and got the boost up to 25psi. Clutch slips pretty good on peak tq, but holds after that. It held enough to rough in the AFR and timing.

We didn't break the lines to my ACD either and I didn't really understand why it needed to be dealt with. It seems like maybe we could partially see into the ACD, where the t-case went into it. Like maybe we could introduce some air into the system that way. Whatever the reason was, he's a certified Mitsu tech and the only one that worked on Evo's where he used to work, so his word was gold to me. If Spencer has no problems, though, then maybe my buddy was just being careful.
By the way, I think the point of the "MUT II" tool was just to run the pump in the ACD without the car running. It would allow it to bleed that way. We just had a pump that sucked the air/fluid out of the system, then refilled with ATF in the reservoir, behind the driver's headlight.

Supposedly you can just turn the ignition on and it will bleed itself, prime the pump etc. I have read various peoples posts, some who have to bleed it, some who don't. This is one of the main reasons I really am debating messing with it. I know if you ruin the ACD it is VERY exspensive to fix.
Also I cannot wait until I can get the AEM standalone in it. Trying to get the fuel trims right with the 880cc injectors and VTA blow off valve is tedious at best. Really chasing my tail. I have it where it is running ok, but still some small issues. I am begining to think that it is about as good as it will get. I knew the VTA blow off valve would give me fits, but I could not see buying two and have two different flanges welded on my piping when I was going standalone in the long run. Oh well, it is atleast running much better. I can see the mpg has already started to increase. It was around 14-15mpg with the exhaust leak and wacked out o2 sensor readings. Glad that it is more normal now.

Update:
New clutch is being installed as we speak thanks to Andrew Kisner and Nate from TPG Tuning, should be done in a couple hours. Went with an Exedy Twin disk, removed restrictor and installed a stainless clutch line. Also installed stainless shifter bushings and Motul fluid in the tranny and transfercase. Suprisingly the stock clutch, PP and flywheel did not look too bad at all. I was expecting much worse. I believe had I stayed on the stock turbo, they would have lasted awhile longer. All fluids removed looked good too, very little if any metal shavings. Thats a relief :yahoo:
Andrew noticed that the turbo inlet's anti-surge piece was sticking out of the inlet. This is probably why I have had such a time with tuning and knock counts as it was running terribly in-efficient. He is going to fix that for me, and I will be in contact with Buschur Racing on Monday to remedy a permanent solution.
Also installed some Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec tires, 245/45/17. These tires are flat out awesome! The reviews are outstanding, and after driving on them I must agree. I have a new set of plugs to install, then get somewhat of a tune on it, wax and its ready to go to OC!
